BMW paint hardness varies more than most across the range — from soft Frozen finishes to very hard Individual colours. We test before we commit to a correction plan.
What BMW paint is actually like
Generally hard clear coat with good film build, but hardness varies noticeably by colour and plant. Frozen (matte) finishes require matte-specific handling.
What we see most on BMWs
Frozen matte finishes
Frozen paint must never be polished or gloss-coated. It needs a matte-specific coating and a specific wash routine.
Carbon Black and Black Sapphire swirls
BMW's dark metallics show wash marring in the harshest light.
Variable clear coat hardness
Different colours behave differently — a test spot for each is not optional.
Brake dust etching
M models generate serious brake dust that etches lower panels and wheels if not removed.
How we prep a BMW before coating
Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.

Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.

Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.

Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.

Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.

Colour-specific test spot before any full-panel correction — BMW hardness varies too much to assume.

Wheels removed or thoroughly decontaminated for brake dust, then coated with a wheel-specific product.

Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.

Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.

IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
