Tesla paint is well known for being soft and thin. Almost every car we take delivery-fresh has visible swirls, and a good number have finish defects from the factory. Correction before coating is essential here, not optional.
What Tesla paint is actually like
Notably soft and thin clear coat — among the softest in the market. It marks with almost nothing, but corrects quickly and safely with the right pad and compound.
What we see most on Teslas
Delivery swirls
Nearly every new Tesla arrives with wash marring from the delivery centre. It's the single most common complaint we hear.
Very soft clear coat
Fingernails, drive-through washes and even the wrong towel leave marks. Coating adds a genuinely useful sacrificial layer.
Panel gap and paint texture variance
Orange peel and slight texture differences between panels are common and can't be fully corrected without risky levelling.
Glass roof heat load
The full glass roof on Model 3 and Y makes cabin heat a real issue in Queensland summer.
Charging-bay grime
Public charger car parks are dusty and the front boot area collects contamination.
How we prep a Tesla before coating
Preparation is the job. The coating is the last hour of it.

Full inspection under LED and swirl-finder lighting, with paint depth readings recorded panel by panel.

Two-bucket hand wash, wheels and arches degreased, badges and shuts cleaned out.

Chemical iron and industrial fallout removal, then a clay treatment to lift bonded contamination.

Tape-up of trim, rubbers and sensitive edges before any machine work.

Soft-paint-specific correction using fine pads and low-abrasive polish — Tesla clear coat cuts fast and needs restraint.

Every panel checked for existing thin spots before correction, with readings recorded.

Panel wipe with a coating-safe solvent to strip polishing oils and reveal the true finish.

Fireball ceramic coating applied by hand, levelled panel by panel under controlled lighting.

IR / controlled cure, then a final inspection and handover pack with aftercare instructions.
